In this weeks news…. It’s almost here!!!

Posted on 20 September 2021 by Brett Jackson

Hi folks,

For all of you who are interested, and can’t wait to see read about our adventure on the Camino, the book is almost finished. Woohoo!

The latest updates
Some of you have been asking questions. Questions, such as Where have I been? What have I been up to? And when is that Camino book due out?
So, to answer those questions, I have been here… writing, sort of.
In August, Karen and I took two weeks off to go on holiday, and while we had a fantastic holiday, not writing totally killed my rhythm, and I spent ages getting it back. I am one of those writers who really needs to write every day, to keep up that momentum. The good news is, I am back to writing, and my momentum is back too. This is definitely an experience I will remember, and endure to prevent in future… as it almost feels like a kind of burnout. Thankfully though, all is good, and I got my mojo back 🙂

The good news is… writing has resumed on “Our Camino Diary” and I am aiming to release it by the end of this month. Also, Karen and I recently did a talk on the Camino, and it went really well. Updates will appear more regularly, as I finish the writing, and editing processes, so please watch this space.

In other news
My iMac stopped updating, (it’s an apple thing) so I have decided to change the way I work. The iMac is now off the desktop, and I have replaced it with MS Windows 10, and a home built tower with Dell Monitor. I still have my macbook pro for formatting with Vellum, but for now, I am happy writing in Windows. It’s been a while, and I am really enjoying the accomplishment of “I built this PC” and “I am making this book too”.

What have you been up to this month?

Camino Diary release delay, and new book cover sneak peek.

Posted on 30 June 2021 by Brett Jackson

Hey folks, for those who have been following, you may have been expecting the Camino Diary released (or at least finished) sometime around today.
Owing to “writery things” (there’s a lot involved in writing a book), the book is taking a little longer than expected, and will be delayed for possibly another 2 weeks (sorry). This will give me time to polish it, and give you a much better reading experience, after all practice make perfect.
But don’t worry, there will be more updates towards the time of finishing and release, and I just want to say a massive thank you for sticking around.
You all mean a great deal to me, and without you, I wouldn’t have the motivation to carry on writing.
Thankyou all.

For the moment though, here’s a sneak peek at the *new look* book cover.

Camino Diary Update and Sneak Peek

Posted on 21 June 2021 by Brett Jackson

Hey folks,

It’s been a while since my last blog update, but we haven’t been slacking here at BrettishBooks. We have been putting together the Camino Diary which details the 540 miles (800 km) journey my wife and I made in 2019 from St.Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago in Spain. The Camino de Santiago.
Here are a few pictures to show you what’s happening.
Watch this space, there is more coming soon.

Until then, happy reading, and stay safe.
Brett.

Breaktime over, now writing the Camino Diary :)

Posted on 10 May 2021 by Brett Jackson

The last 10 days have been a welcome break after the spectacular release of my debut Novel, and I would like to say a mahoosive thanks to all of you for your support.

So what have I been doing with my time off?
Well, this may surprise some of you, but I actually rested. I didn’t write a word, and managed to get more reading done. The chance to be able to stand away from the keyboard meant that it gave my brain a chance to breathe.
After the first day of anxiousness and forcing myself to stay away from the computer, I noticed my brain going into creative mode, and grabbed a pen and pad, then started scribbling down so many ideas. This means I now have loads of ideas for books in future, and a great way to go forward 🙂

So what’s next?
Today starts a 60 day journey to put together a diary of our trip on the Camino de Santiago in 2019. I have 10,004 photos to look through, and will be reading through the two handwritten journals which Karen and I wrote along the way. I may even post some of those pictures here on the blog.

My first novel is finally here!

Posted on 30 April 2021 by Brett Jackson

Over 4 and a half years ago, I started to write a time travel novel, and I have completed, edited, formatted and published it.

Twice Upon A Timeline

Here is a reminder of the blurb.

30 years after the Heyworth Dam collapsed, killing his father and the townsfolk of Kisterwich, Zac Drummonds life changes when he is reunited with his childhood journal which unlocks secrets of that fateful day, and leads him on a journey that will change the past, present, and future.
But, someone else has a vested interest in keeping the truth buried, and will stop at nothing to ensure that Zac doesn’t find out what really happened.

Will Zac find out the truth?
What are the rules of time travel?
And what happens when you break them?

Check out the bookstore to buy this book.
I’m now off to celebrate and then start a week off writing, then get started on the Camino Diary.

Writing and editing

Posted on 25 April 2021 by Brett Jackson

Today has been crazy. With less than a week left, I have been hard at work fixing the plot holes, making tweaks and editing and proofreading. With over 1000 changes (typos and grammar errors) fixed and 2000+ words today alone, I am happy I will meet the deadline and just can’t wait to share this adventure with you all.
And now, I’m off to sleep, to carry on tomorrow

Twice Upon A Timeline – The blurb

Posted on 17 April 2021 by Brett Jackson

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock recently, (and let’s face it, the lockdowns have had us doing some crazy things) you will be no doubt aware that I am writing a time travel novel. Since the cover and title reveal last week, several people have asked me if they can find out more, and when will I be releasing “the blurb” (a teaser of what this book is all about). So far, you’ve all been so support and patient, and I think you’ve waited long enough.

So, it gives me great pleasure to present to you… The blurb.

Twice Upon A Timeline.

In a world where trees are a protected species, can one book really hold the key to everything?

30 years after the Heyworth dam was blown up, wiping out his home town, Zac Drummond’s life changes when he is reunited with his childhood journal which unlocks secrets of that fateful day, and leads him on a journey to find out what really happened to his father, in a quest that will change the past, present, and future.

But, someone else has a vested interest in keeping the truth buried, and will stop at nothing, to ensure that Zac doesn’t find out what really happened.

Will Zac find out the truth?
What are the rules of time travel?
And what happens when you break them?

The only way he can find out the answers, is to go… Twice Upon A Timeline.

I am working hard to release this debut novel by the end of April 2021, and I hope to make it available on an e-reader near you.

In this weeks news…

Last week I held the Business launch Live on Facebook and YouTube, and I enjoyed every single minute of it. There were a number of minor glitches when the backgrounds of my slides crashed mere minutes before I went live, but apart from that, it was a roaring success.
If you weren’t able to watch, it’s available at the following link. Thanks to all who attended, and showed their support, it really means a lot to me.

Cover and title release
As part of the show, I intended to do a cover and title release, and for those who weren’t able to see it, here goes.

Twice Upon A Timeline

Editing
This week due to a filed file sync, I almost lost the entire novel, however, my automated backup system saved the day. Yay for apple time machine 🙂
I am still on schedule, and am really looking forward to releasing at the end of the month.

Thanks for reading

Brett
