This situation seems to be affecting a lot of writers. In an attempt to help, I will start by pointing out the following.
. You are not alone, sometimes it may feel like it, but there are many others who know and understand what you are feeling.
. No-one expects you to get over it, but we can help each other get through it (big difference).
As writers, we can be very sensitive to our emotions (after all, I find it’s the best way to convey how our characters feel). At the start of this pandemic, my emotions went everywhere, and I noticed straight away that the reason for this was too much negative media input in my brain. I tried to switch off the TV to lessen the effect, but it was just as bad on the internet.
Soooo, I did what us writers do best… I grabbed a journal, and I wrote it all as it happened.
Every time something some son TV or the web, I write it down. This helps in two ways:
. It gets it out of my head, fast and helps my mental health
. It allows my brain a chance to breathe and now get pulled down by the weight of the world on my shoulders
. It means I get to keep a record for future book possibilities, because it’s not all about Covid.
My suggestion? Grab yourself a journal / notebook etc and write stuff down. In a day or two you will be surprised how much lighter and less tense you will feel, and start to release these feelings of anxiousness, which are holding you back from writing.
Hope this helps, stay well.
