For anyone who has been in the facebook group recently, they will notice it’s been quite quiet. After a bad update, my mac mini decided it didn’t want to work anymore. This meant that I wasn’t able to update the newsletter, log into facebook properly, or anything else that needed an ounce of computing power.
Here’s what I did to fix the problem.
But first… what was the problem? I hear you say.
I had, until recently, a mac mini, which served me well. However, several years ago, it stopped updating, so I was using a patch to keep it up-to-date, which meant I could use the latest version of programs including MS Word, Scrivener, and Vellum for writing and formatting my books. While everything worked, it was all hunky dory, but another update came out, and as my computer was doing an update, their was a power failure, which lead to catastrophic issues, which would take a long time to fix, and meant that I couldn’t do as much writing, because I was only able to use my phone, and my low-powered laptop.
What did I do instead?
After a day or two, of tinkering, and attempting to fix the mac mini, I received a phone call. My son told me that he had upgraded his computer, and was going to strip his old computer apart, and sell all of the pieces separately. We chatted, and a few days later, I ended up with his old computer, which is absolutely perfect for writing books.
The purchase of the new computer means I can now carry on writing, organising the newsletter, and keeping in touch with everyone on the facebook group, yay 🙂
