MJ who asks
Q:ย
How do you manage to have the time to write a newsletter and a book at the same time?

A:ย
As you would expect, It helps that I donโ€™t have the distractions of social media anymore, yay ๐Ÿ™‚
Secondly, before the start of each week, I carve out writing time, newsletter time and rest time, in amongst my other family commitments, housework, etc.
I have a designated area for writing, so that family knows that I am “in the zone”.

I create content for the newsletter by doing the following:
– I take a notebook everywhere with me, and I note down what happened this week. On the rare occasions I forget my notebook, my pen runs out, etc, I take photos with my phone, and scroll through my photos folder at the end of the week when I am putting this newsletter together.
– I write about life experiences, for example, this week the fam and I went to a a national trust house this week where all the wifi was down, and I got to thinking just how my characters would cope if the internet went down in the future.
– I also take part in a monthly newsletter swap list with 12 other authors, and this means I have access to blurbs, books, and more, that I can copy / paste into the newsletter saving me time.
– I have the mobile apps for my writing software and newsletter software, and this means that when I am away from home and I think of something to go in the newsletter, I can just open the app, and put something into a draft, ready for saving me time at the end of the week.

Writing my books.
– I use Scrivener to write my books, and the mobile app is fantastic. It syncs with Dropbox, so whenever I have a thought, idea, some time to write on my laptop while away or in coffee shops, I can just pull out a device and start writing. When my study is back up and running, I shall then be able to use that writing space as a way to discipline myself.

I hope that answers your question MJ.
