Hello Everyone, and welcome to this weeks Writers Roundup.
BrettishBooks is now 3 years old.
Yesterday (Sat April 6h) BrettishBooks celebrated its 3 year anniversary, with its debut Book Signing event at WHSmith in Loughborough. It was a fantastic day, full of laughter, chat, questions, and me signing books.
I would like to give a massive thank you to my wife for all her support, the readers who came and chatted, and everyone who bought books, and to WHSmith for allowing me to host the event. It truly was a great experience, and I look forward to doing another one in future.
WHSmith have even bought some books from me, and are selling them in the store.
I simply can’t believe this, I have gone from a schoolboy whose teachers told him he would never be an author, to this. It just goes to show, if you chase your dreams, you can achieve the impossible.
My dream of selling books in store as an independent Author has finally come true.
My Working Week
This week has been full of experiences. Following an unexpected trip to the hospital this week (my wife had a fall and fractured her foot) I have been busy tending to her, and making sure she is looked after.
I have also been editing (still converting Time Clones book 2 to my chromebook) and getting ready for the Author signing event at WHSmith that happened yesterday (6th April 2024).
Working towards another book is something that requires daily work, but sometimes life gets in the way. Looking after my wife has meant that I haven’t got as much done this week as I usually would, but that’s allowed. As writers it’s a good idea to put things on hold, and make sure that you deal with crisis, because we all need to prioritise what (or who) is important.
There are various types of crisis we can have in our lives, such as family bereavements, weddings, hospital visits, and more. You might be thinking… “but how am I supposed to juggle this and work on my book at the same time?” The answer is simple…. don’t. If you try, you will upset those around you, the issues you are dealing with will affect your work, and you will end up completely wiped out, with some second-rate work.
The best way to deal with this, is to just ride through your life issues and put your writing on hold.
At the time of writing this weeks newsletter, we had some grandchildren over (who came to visit my wife and make sure she was okay), and the living room was full of toys, grandchildren, and a dog, whilst we were watching spidey and his amazing friends. We had some family time, and got to play with teddies. All this was great for my wife, because she didn’t have to think about the pain in her foot, and gave us some family time too.
Patreons.
There are no new Patreons this week, but if you want to support me as an official fan, it only costs £1 per month, and you will become a member of the community, with the chance to post replies to these newsletters. Writing Update
Not really had much chance to do some writing this week., but when I do, I will post updates.
For regular progress check out the website at [https://www.brettishbooks.com](https://www.brettishbooks.com/) and look at the Editing accountability graph.
Reading
I took my kindle to the hospital with me, and started reading “Drawing Red” by Adara Spence. It’s great so far, and I can’t wait to read more. With everything going on at the moment, I have decided that recreational reading is more needed than work reading, so have put “They ask, you answer” by Marcus Sheridan on the back burner. As always, if you want to check out my reading progress, please feel free to follow me on Goodreads.
Learning
This Wednesday I was supposed to do some marketing learning, but due to our home situation, I emailed them, and they kindly recorded the session for anyone who couldn’t go. This means I can watch it at my own leisure soon.
And that’s a wrap
That’s all for this week, if you have any questions, or would like to answer any of the questions above, please type here in the comments.
If you know anyone who would benefit from this newsletter, and the content contained herein, please feel free to pass it on. The link is [https://www.patreon.com/brettishbooks](https://www.patreon.com/brettishbooks)
Until next time, happy reading 🙂
