Apparently it’s quite hard, however…
I see a lot of people making their own book covers, and a lot of them to look rather dire. I am no artist myself, but I have done some researching, and I found a website that does it all online, for free, with minimal artistic requirement needed, and the best bit is, it’s FREE!
Where is this holy grail, I hear you ask?
The folks over at www.canva.com have created a really nice website. It’s full of pretty photos, templates, click and drag fun, and lots of great fonts. Simply sign up, and you get a great bunch of image-making tools, for free. If you ever wanted to create a youtube thumbnail, you can. If you every wanted to create a facebook banner, you can, and if you ever wanted to make a jaw dropping website banner…. guess what, you can!
Okay, so what’s the catch? How do they make their money?
As well as being able to use their free photos, here is a fantastic library of photos, that you can buy, for so much each photo, or get a monthly membership and get free pics for as long as you are a member.
So, will it turn me into Picasso?
While they provide the tools, you still need to put the effort into putting together the final image. At least with canva, you’re more likely to sell your book if your drawing skills aren’t that great.
