Your chance to ask me any writing or book related questions.

Is the “Ask The Author” Section Still Relevant to You?

Lately, you may have noticed that our beloved “Ask The Author” section has been quieter than usual. Where once we saw a steady stream of questions, discussions, and ideas, things have slowed down a bit. I’ve been reflecting on how this part of the newsletter has evolved, and wanted to check in with you— the readers and community members—about it.

So, here’s the question we have for you: Do you still want the “Ask The Author” section?

This section has been a space where you could ask me about my inspirations, writing processes, and the stories behind my books. It’s been a place for us to connect more deeply in a more personal way.

However, I’ve noticed that the flow of questions has dwindled, and I would like to understand why. Maybe the questions you once had have already been answered, or perhaps it’s just become the same old thing every week?

I truly value your input—your voice is what shapes this space. If the “Ask The Author” section is something you still find interesting and worthwhile, please let me know! If there are ways to breathe new life into this feature, I’d love to hear your ideas.

If you think it’s time to let the “Ask The Author” section rest, that’s okay too! I am committed to keeping this community evolving in ways that serve you best. Ultimately, it’s your feedback that will guide us in the right direction.

So, what do you think? Let me know if you still want to see more of the “Ask The Author” section or if it’s time for something new. Your thoughts matter, and I’m excited to hear from you!

What is the Kuru Toga?

This week, I decided to try something new. The Filofax I use is great, however the gel pens I use in it are prone to smudging, take ages to dry out, and I have to wait quite a while, just to change the page, so getting information and ideas down takes forever.

I was watching some videos, and I saw something inspiring, that completely solved my problem. The person in the video was using …

Health update

Posted on 3 December 2024 by Brett Jackson

Considering the fact that we went shopping in York and the fair recently, and easily consumed a lot of calories, I was very surprised today to find out that I only put on half a pound. Next week I want to shed at least 1.5 pounds.

Also, the MRI and EEG I had recently went by flawlessly, and I am now awaiting the results.

Today, I decided to have the day off.

Posted on 2 December 2024 by Brett Jackson

It’s been a crazy few weeks, and I am absolutely shattered. The house has been neglected, so I decided to take charge of the kitchen and tidy all the pots and pans that have been collecting on the side for the last couple of days, and while doing that, I have been watching the Kingsman film on Netflix.

Watching something while doing a tedious task really cuts the monotony of the task at hand, and I breezed through the kitchen.

Tomorrow, I plan on going back to work, with some renewed energy 🙂

My Minecraft advent calendar

Posted on 1 December 2024 by Brett Jackson

As we head towards Christmas, we celebrate waiting, and as part of that waiting, we like to do a countdown with h and advent calendar.

Last year I had a Peppa pig calendar, and the year before I had Star wars Lego, this year, I have decided to grab a Minecraft calendar.

Each day brings a small book with a Minecraft mini Christmas build.

What did I discover in box number 1?

One Word At A Time – The weekly newsletter from Scifi Author Brett Jackson.

For more about me, visit brettishbooks.com.

Hello there, and welcome to this weeks chapter of
One Word At A Time.

My name is Brett Jackson. I’m a Science Fiction Author, Time Travel lover, and occasional poet.

One Word At A Time takes you through my journey as an Independent Author, and brings you weekly news full of Writing Updates, Writing World News and more… and now, let’s begin this chapter.

Hello Time Trekkers, and welcome to this weeks email newsletter, where I share my journey as a Time Travel author. Each week there is a manuscript update, book recommendation, I answer your questions and more. So, lets get this started.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

  • My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary, by having the week off, and while we were supposed to enjoy a holiday, I ended up in hospital instead. After a few days, with a lot of TLC from the hospital staff and my amazing wife, I was cleared to go home, however, I am now back on anti-epileptic drugs after being off them for over 10 years. This means that this weeks email is just a quick one.

Over the last month I achieved the following:

  • Came off Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter, TikTok, and more, to concentrate on writing my stories.
  • Changed the name of the newsletter from “One Word At A Time” to “The Time Trekkers Journal”, changed the look and made it much more sci-fy’ey
  • Edited lots of chapters of Time Clones book 2 (close to completing second edits, and soon on to final edits.
  • Went to the Engine Shed in Lincoln, and met up with fellow Authors at Linc-Con 2024
  • Read 3 books, 2 Diaries of a Wimpy Kid, The Lady of the Loch
  • Tried a few todo apps, and decided to work out a way of being able to focus on my productivity.
  • Health: Went to see a specialist about my knee, and also went to hospital with a seizure. Both recovering well. Joined Slimming World. Got my eyes checked, and new glasses are on their way (photos coming soon).
  • Bought some new board games, and spent lots of time with the fam, meeting up, and enjoying memories together.

And that’s us all caught up today.

If you have any questions, or just wish to get in contact, you can do that by clicking the following button. I would love to hear from you, and appreciate any feedback from the newsletters.Message Brett Jackson – Scifi Author

Check out my books at www.brettishbooks.com, and consider supporting me by signing up to my free or monthly subscription to this newsletter. It’s less than the price of a cup of coffee, and your support helps me, write more books for you.

The Time Trekkers Journal – The weekly newsletter from Scifi Author Brett Jackson.

For more about me, visit brettishbooks.com.

Hello there, and welcome to this weeks chapter of
The Time Trekkers Journal

My name is Brett Jackson. I’m a Science Fiction Author, Time Travel lover, and occasional poet.

The Time trekkers Journal takes you through my journey as an Independent Author, and brings you weekly news full of Writing Updates, Writing World News and more… and now, let’s begin this chapter.

Hello Time Trekkers, and welcome to the new look email newsletter.
New name, new look, finally a Science Fiction newsletter that looks Scifi-ey.
What’s changed?

  • I gave it a new name. ‘One Word At A Time’ is now called ‘The Time Trekkers Journal’.
  • It was time to add new Title Banners, now taller with a new font, background colour, and section names.
  • And I changed the heading logo at the top of this newsletter. It now has a brand new heading logo – with the iconic hourglass symbol, and matching spacey backgrounds for that Sci-fi feel.

I love this new look, and I am sure you will love it too.

This week I have achieved the following:

  • Made lots of changes to the newsletter, to get it stuck out of the past, and drag it screaming into the future.
  • I have been reading The Lady of the Loch by Ryan Vernel, and I am really getting stuck into it. You can check out my progress on Goodreads
  • I have edited 2 more chapters this week, converting more of the first draft to second draft.

All in all, it’s been a very productive week, and I can’t wait to crack on with more editing next week.

This weeks Book of the Week is

Time Blink by MJ Mumford

Blurb

When Syd Brixton was eleven years old, her identical twin vanished from a park in broad daylight and was never found.

Fast forward twenty years. Despite her lingering guilt, Syd’s life seems idyllic. She has a great job at a popular pub. A beautiful home. A loving extended family. And best of all, a long-term relationship with a handsome firefighter who wants nothing more than to have children of his own.

Then it all comes crashing down.

One night outside the pub, Syd’s favorite customer, Morley, is killed in a horrific accident. Moments before he dies, he gives Syd an extraordinary gift: the power to go back in time–and with it, the ability to learn the truth behind her sister’s disappearance all those years ago.

But what if the truth is too painful to face? What if Syd would rather focus on saving Morley’s life instead? Even against his wishes?

If she makes the wrong choice, she could lose everything…her home, her family. Her life.

All in the blink of an eye.

Editing Accountability graph updated.

Posted on 7 October 2024 by Brett Jackson

Hey folks, It’s been a while since the editing accountability graph was updated, so I decided to bring it back up to date.

As I have been doing the second edits on Time Clones book 2, I noticed as I got to the end, that I hadn’t quite finished the first draft. So, I have been busy sorting out the rest of the first draft, and chaptered it all up. After a bout of Covid recently, I have also had a bit of a break from writing whist getting better.

In the graph, you can see the progression as I have been editing draft two, then the drop indicates that I am just completing the new edits on the first draft last chapters.
