Writerly Business
I completed my taxes and submitted them, yay 🙂 It’s the first time I have been able to do it on my own (bear in mind I am only on year 3 of BrettishBooks, so technically I’ve only done it twice before. Having a business bank account makes things so much easier, because I literally have a complete record in only one place, woohoo. This makes filling out my tax return an absolute breeze.
Do you have any productivity hacks you want to share to help you with writerly business?
Writing This week I started editing Time Clones book 2. I use Grammarly for the first edit. Grammarly is great, I can upload a few chapters at a time to be able to cut down on the overwhelm, and chop the editing process down into easy-t-work-with chunks of information. At the moment, I am currently doing a course on copywriting and editing with the College of Excellence. Once I have completed the course I plan on being able to use my skills to help others. Do you self-edit? What Editing software do you use?
The Write Place
After listening to Holly Lines excellent Podcast “Writer Roadmap” with H.B.Lyne I decided to join “The Write Place”, a great community of fellow writers hosted by Author Julia Scott (Author of The Mirror Souls), and the formatting fireball from the Unstoppable Authors. The Write Place is filled with lots of people I have never seen before, and some I haven’t seen in a while. It’s a great place to hang out with other Authors, and learn more about the craft, with a chance to be able to pass on any wisdom I have to give from my own Author Journey.

Productivity hack for my zettelfax / filokasten
In the last Writers Roundup, I discussed a productivity method I have created, as a mishmash between the Filofax, and zettelkasten. This method is a way to be able to deal with future appointments, and organise the overwhelm of information and tasks, and convert them so that I can organise my life in a way that takes all the overwhelm out of it. I had originally dubbed this new method the zettelfax, but after checking out the translations I realised I had named it incorrectly. The zettelfax (slip fax) is now dubbed the filokasten (filo box) after the two methods I use in the order I use them. This week I have tried something new, and I am very pleased how it worked out. In the todo section of my filokasten, I have created a slip with the Eisenhower Method on it, and I use this method to be able to work through the tasks I need to complete. For example, this week, I created a sheet with a master todo list, then created sheets with each project name, and task lists on each sheet. I have now been able to put the projects in order of the most important and most urgent, to the least urgent and least important, and crack through what I need to do, without constantly looking through the task list, scratching my head, wondering what to do next.
Would you like to try the Filokasten method?
Social Media.
This week I started to post regularly on Twitter / X and you’ve all been great. I have decided to start posting with themed posts per days. There will be upbeat motivationmonday posts, curious timetraveltuesday questions, worldbuildingwednesday advice, throwbackthursday posers, futurefriday insights, spacesaturday posts full of awe and wonder, and scifisunday posts asking you all sorts of questions.
Will you be joining in?
Health
I have decided to go ahead and take the plunge with my diet. I have cut out sugar and bread, and really gone to town on lunches. Gone are all the cheese sandwiches which was my daily goto, and no more snacking sweets and chocolate. Is it working? I’m not sure, as it’s too early to tell. However, I am not really sleeping as much during the day now, so I guess I have some more energy. Lunches have been more fun too. I know it’s winter, but here’s a quick rundown of what I ate for lunch this week, in case you want to try this too.
Sun – egg noodles and tuna mayo
Mon – Tuna mayo wrap with coleslaw – okay wraps are still technically a bread product, so I am looking for an alternative.
Tue – Ham, Cheese, Lettuce, Coleslaw
Wed – Jacket Potato with home made Bolognaise sauce
Thu – I skipped lunch today, but had a fantastic dinner of home made sweet and sour pork and rice.
Fri – Corned Beef, with lemon and black pepper mayo, on Romano lettuce (I knew there was a better alternative to wraps), with coleslaw, and celery with a garlic mayo dip.
Sat – Bacon, Eggs, and baked beans.
The results so far are that I am actually feeling less bloated, and have less pain in my elbows, shoulders, and hands, so I’m counting that as a win 🙂
What recipes do you have that you can share? Please put them in the comments.
In other news, I got my referral call for ADHD from my doctor this week, and I look forward to finally finding out what the diagnosis is sometime in the new future.
As usual, if you have any questions, or would like to answer any of the questions above, please type here in the comments, or email me brettjackson@brettishbooks.com
That’s all for this week, until next time.
– Brett
